Mission

Yokai Night Parade (百鬼夜行) introduces the yokai of Japanese folklore to an international audience — accurately, atmospherically, and with sources. We publish 30-second vertical videos on YouTube and TikTok, and pair each video with a reference article here that restores what a short video must cut: names and readings, regional variations, documented behavior, and where the stories actually come from.

Editorial policy

  • Articles distinguish documented tradition from later popular imagery. Every yokai article has a dedicated section separating the two.
  • Where accounts differ by region, we describe the variation instead of flattening it into a single national legend.
  • Claims that researchers still debate are presented as interpretations, not facts.
  • Danger ratings and any comparative statistics on this site are editorial devices made for readability and play. They are our summary of folklore traits, not measurements found in the sources.
  • Each published article cites at least two registered sources, listed at the end of the article.

Illustration policy

The illustrations on this site and in our videos are original digital artwork, produced under a fixed visual style guide and reviewed by us. They are illustrative reconstructions: original scenes imagining how an encounter might have looked. They are not historical paintings, museum artifacts, or photographs, and we label them so they cannot be mistaken for historical records. Production records and rights confirmations are kept for every published image.
